Restaurant Review: The Lone Spur Cafe

By Martin S. Hussey Jr., Correspondent

The Lone Spur Café is a regional cowboy-themed restaurant chain that has three establishments in northern Arizona and three in southwest Colorado. One of these establishments is at Gurley Street in Prescott, just behind the Courthouse Plaza. The Prescott establishment is open all week from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. I have been to the restaurant two times. The first was for lunch after visiting the Sharlot Hall Museum in the fall of 2019 and the second time for breakfast with my father when he came up from Phoenix a couple of weeks ago.

My experiences at the Lone Spur Café have been overwhelmingly positive. When I went there for lunch, I ordered a cheeseburger with cheddar cheese and French fries. According to their menu, “Gourmet half pound patties never frozen, served on bun or grilled sourdough bread, with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle.” As a proud eater of hamburgers, I can confirm that their cheeseburgers are crafted well and delicious. I never got the impression that the patty was frozen and when I finished it, I was tempted to order another one! For breakfast with my father, I ordered the ham steak and eggs with hash browns and orange juice and my father had the hand-cut 10 oz ribeye steak and eggs. We had a wonderful breakfast. To be honest, it was one of the better breakfasts at a restaurant that I have had in a while. My father also enjoyed his steak and eggs.

Beyond the food, the service was great. The servers were nice and descriptive, so a good tip was waiting for them. The interior of the restaurant, being cowboy-themed, proved interesting. Decorations include paintings with cowboys and the rural west, movie posters of old western films, cowboy equipment hung on the wall, license plates, and a couple booth’s lamps are made with antlers! Prices were also reasonable, with my lunch being under $20 and me and my father’s breakfast being under $50, taxes included.

Overall, my experiences at the Lone Spur Café have been positive and I cannot wait for the next time I will be having breakfast or lunch there. For anyone that wants to have breakfast or lunch for the weekend and does not want to do fast food for the twentieth time, this is the place. For more information about the Lone Spur Café, visit: [].
