SGA’s biggest event of the year, the SGA election, is currently in full swing. Going from Mar. 8 to Mar. 26, the SGA election will feature multiple events and debates between candidates The representative candidates’ campaigning period has already ended. Still, the executive positions, such as President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer, are in the middle of their campaign season. There will be many posters up in the next week featuring each candidate and what they are running for.
Posters are put up around campus, highlighting the major events of this year’s election. All Students can find even more events in their school email inbox and on Eaglelife. The main attraction is the Presidential Debate, taking place on Mar. 18 from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., all Candidates who are running for President and Vice-President will be debating in room 106 of the DLC. There are only fifty spots available in person for this event. The debate will also be live-streamed on the SGA Instagram account for everyone who can not attend in person. It’s a great chance to meet the candidates and hear their thoughts on campus matters.
On Mar. 23, the Presidential last stand speech will occur at the Student Union Courtyard from 3 p.m. to 4 p. m., and this will be the Presidential Candidates last chance to win votes. Voting will happen Mar. 24-26 through an online ballot on Eaglelife. It will be similar to a multiple-choice format where the position is stated, followed by who is running for that position. Voting will close at 5:30 p.m. on Mar. 26, and the winners of the election will be announced via an email to the student body at 6:30 p.m. MT.
Since early Oct. of last semester, people have been preparing their candidacies, and each candidate is giving this election their all. All of the candidates have made amazing posters, collaborated with clubs, and in some cases made special campaigning materials such as a website, masks, and business cards. The election committee has also been working hard behind the scenes to ensure everything goes smoothly. With so much going into this election, it is hard not to feel excited by the outcome, so vote as soon as you can for who you think will help our campus reach even greater heights next year.
