Since quarantine, home exercises have begun trending not only for their practicality and entertainment, but for their accessibility. Even after gyms and trails started opening up again, the ease and comfort of exercising from home continues to appeal to many. As someone relatively new to consistent workout routines, I was interested in finding an app that was easy to use while being fun and upbeat.
Seven — 7 Minute Workout is a free app found on the App Store for iPhones, rated 4.8 stars, with further purchase options available. The user can create an account to further customize the app and keep track of workouts, but no account is necessary to start exercising. This app allows users to set fitness goals and start achieving them with no equipment needed.
Seven offers different workout plans customizable to the body part, workout goal, or top trends. I decided to customize a workout plan. Seven offers three options: Get Fit, Get Strong, and Lose Weight. I chose the Get Fit option. The next step in creating a workout plan is choosing which/how many days you want to work on, and which time. I chose to workout on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 6:00 pm. Seven also provides a reminder function through notifications to remind the user of workout times.
After setting up my workout, Seven created my plan, which involved 12 different activities, varying from ten seconds to 30 seconds. The activities included lunges, planks, high knees, hip raises, jumping jacks, push-ups, triceps lifts, and crunches. In the middle of the screen is a circle with an animated gif of a person doing the activity and a timer showing how much time is left of the activity.
Workouts can be paused by swiping up from the bottom of the screen, which pulls up the exercise description of whichever activity the user is currently on. Descriptions include 2-3 bullets of how to properly execute the activity and its purpose. Descriptions are accompanied by an animated gif of the activity. Users also have the option to cancel a workout, or return to it at a later time.
Seven’s other functions include a user profile with statistics, plans, leagues, and achievements, a library with different workouts for different parts of the body, Top 10 Most Popular Workouts Today, and workouts by different instructors.
Seven — 7 Minute Workout is a great app to use to get in shape or just explore different exercises, especially for beginners. The app is easy to navigate and stress free, has a fun design, and keeps the user accountable and motivated toward their workout goals. I would recommend trying out this great app.
