Alpha Xi Delta Spreads Xi Love
As people were planning what to get their Valentine/Galentine or even potential Valentine, Alpha Xi Delta was planning an annual Valentine’s Day fundraiser. They did a preorder system where on Feb. 12 and Feb. 13 people could purchase various item(s) for a special someone in their life. The items this sorority was selling were “a rose; a rose and a card; or a rose, a card, and a bag of candy,” which could then be “picked up by the special someone after they were contacted by [Alpha Xi Delta on Valentine’s Day],” said Vice President of Alpha Xi Delta Emmalee Dotson.
Once the first two days of sales were over, they soon started building the care packages for each sweetheart they were about to thrill the next day. Alongside the table passing out these sweet treats were sweet treats sold at an Alpha Xi Delta bake sale table right next to the distribution station to hopefully catch the people who either missed the preorder sessions or who were happily celebrating the day with themselves.
Dotson gratefully announced that Alpha Xi Delta raised over $500 which would be going towards their philanthropy organization Autism Speaks. Since the sorority is a national sorority with chapters all over the United States, every chapter “around the country raised money for the same philanthropy, [as they] are very passionate about spreading awareness and raising money for Autism Speaks,” according to Dotson.
Alpha Xi Delta has more events planned in support of Autism Speaks. “April 2nd is Light it Up Blue for World Autism Day! To support you can wear a blue shirt or accessories on campus on April 2,” says Dotson. Their philanthropy week will be soon after from April 6 to April 10 with fun activities in store for attendees.
The sorority members strive to help a greater cause. Rachel Stoneking described, “I always enjoy our philanthropy events! We always have such a welcoming environment that encourages those we don’t know to walk up and support Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks has a large place in all of our hearts and you can really see Alpha Xi Delta spreading Xi love during our events. Our booth for Valentine’s Day spread the love all over campus and it feels amazing being a part of that impact on campus, as well as raising understanding and awareness for Autism Speaks.”
