The season four premiere episode of the adult cartoon “Rick and Morty” titled,  Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat” aired on Adult Swim on Nov. 10, 2019. “Rick and Morty” is an animated cartoon that follows the crazy life of Rick Sanchez and his grandson Morty Smith as they go on space adventures, create new technology, and fight aliens. The episode starts off with Morty eating breakfast with his family and fantasizing about his crush Jessica. The two then proceed to leave Earth to collect death crystals and encounter a violent team of crystal poachers. As they are leaving the crystal collection, Morty begins to see one of thousands of ways  he will die, with Jessica telling him that she loves him. Morty is determined to take every step to get that to happen.

While leaving the crystal collection, Morty wrecks the spaceship and Rick is ejected and dies a gruesome death. Morty is then greeted by a holographic Rick informing him how to bring Rick back alive. Morty decides not to, but the Rick council all have a clone copy in a cryotube waiting for their death so they can rebirth.

Morty begins to see every event in life play out thanks to the death crystal and is threatened by a bully to fight. Morty gains more intelligence than anyone in the world and goes on a reign of terror across the city before he turns himself in.

Meanwhile, Rick is getting uploaded to other dimension’s cryotubes because his was previously not working in season three. Rick goes through realities that aren’t in his favor such as a shrimp universe and a teddy bear universe until he finds a wasp universe where he learns how important family is. The crystal then creates a cocoon for Morty to live and see the future he wants . Rick and Rick  go and save Morty from the crystal. Then the episode ends with Beth and Jerry, Morty’s parents, concerned if Rick was up to this or not. Then Morty tells them it was all his fault for the destruction he caused. The end scene shows Morty overhearing Jessica say to her friends how she wants to be a hospice caregiver and tell each patient that she loves them.

Overall the season four premiere was excellent and  a great way to kick of the long-waited season four. Even though the episode was dark, it was filled with excitement, action, adventure, and comedy. I recommend if you’re a die-hard fan to watch it free on Adult Swim’s website. The creators are splitting the season into two parts, so there will be a break in December and it will launch again sometime in 2020.
