Just in time for Halloween, or as a throwback by the time this is published, is the internet, customer, and barista collaboration, the “Oogie Boogie Frappuccino.” Combining the flavors of white chocolate and dark chocolate, it’s topped with a dusting of matcha and cookie crumble to add to the visual aesthetic. It’s super sweet, but social-media-worthy. If you’re looking to have this made by your local barista, make sure to order it as follows:
A Java Chip Frappuccino with white mocha added in. Add a layer of whipped cream and java chips on the bottom of the cup. Add whipped cream on top and dust the whipped cream with matcha powder and cookie crumbles. Voila!
This drink was inspired in part by a well-known Halloween film (can you guess what it is?) but was primarily motivated by the desire to have a themed seasonal beverage for Starbucks. In years past, the company has done a Halloween or spooky themed drink, but this year there wasn’t one launched, as far as anyone is aware. So, baristas, customers, and die-hard fans put their noggins together and brewed up a spooky frap!
It’s important to keep in mind that if you plan on ordering an off-menu drink at Starbucks, please have the ingredients ready. If the drink requires a special build, like this one, please have that ready when you order as well. Otherwise, it will come out the way your local barista sees fit. It is also handy to have a photo with you when placing the order, but never necessary (sometimes we order in a drive-thru and that is okay!). Lastly, should you need a milk alternative, sub in your favorite milk base and go ahead and skip the whipped cream. It may not be as visually appealing, but it will be just as tasty.
Good luck trying this drink and if you have any creative drink suggestions, please send them my way so I can give them a try!
