On Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019 the City of Prescott hosted Oktoberfest at Mile High Middle School. This downtown event drew a reasonably sized crowd of beer and food lovers alike. Featuring a variety of 35 different breweries, Oktoberfest was sure to have something to please everyone’s palette.
This event was also surprisingly affordable. For only $32 presale and $42 the week of and at the door, guests received a glass, sticker, and 10 tickets for drinks when each full glass of beer was only 1-2 tickets each. Oktoberfest also featured a handful of food vendors, including a samosa stand, nacho cart, and pizza trailer among other varieties. Live music with bands that played a healthy mix of original songs and covers added to the fun, carefree ambiance of the night.
Some of the top breweries at Oktoberfest 2019 were Speakeasy Ales and Lagers, North Coast Brewery, Modern Times Brewery, and Prescott Brewing Company, a local favorite. All four of these front runners hosted a healthy mix of brews to fit all preferences. Speakeasy – a brewery based out of San Francisco – had two options to include the “Prohibition Ale” and “Big Daddy IPA”. The “Big Daddy IPA”, while still hoppy enough to fall into the pale ale category wasn’t so intense that the unseasoned palette couldn’t enjoy it. At San Diego based Modern Times, both of their drinks were a hit. The “Fruitlands” beer was a light, refreshing sour that went down easy while the “Black House” stout complimented its partner with a rich, flavorful body. A popular way to end the night was at the local favorite Prescott Brewing Company.
Overall, Oktoberfest was a fun night for an affordable price. The easy location and casual setting makes it the perfect way for the 21 and up crowd to celebrate the beginning of autumn.
